Power Animals and Totems

Cultural Totems

Some totems are actually cultural, meaning they affect or represent an entire culture. Power animals, or totems, have appeared throughout many religions, faiths and cultures. Some tribal cultures even identify their entire tribe based off of one animal. Even some families have individual totems. Sometimes local organizations, clubs and cultures will adopt a totem. This is best evidenced in the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, to which I am a member, and the Loyal Order of Moose, and the Lions Club. Some sports teams have totems, like the Colts, Broncos, Falcons and more. Even some cities, countries and states have a "state animal" that is often a totemic animal for that given location. Some religions honor totems or creatures as well, such as Christianity which recognizes the fish and the lamb.

Astrological Totems

As some totems affect cultures, some affect entire masses of people. One of the simpler ways of organizing this is to look at an entire astrological sign. Astrological signs have their own totems listed below (some are abstract symbols rather than "animals" or "creatures"):

Aries: Lamb/Ram
Taurus: Bull
Gemini: Twins
Cancer: Crab
Leo: Lion
Virgo: Virgin, Angel, Sphinx
Libra: Scales
Scorpio: Scorpion, Snake/(grey) Lizard/Dragon, Eagle, Phoenix
Sagittarius: Centaur, Horse, Deer
Capricorn: Capricorn (goat fish), Goat, Fish, unicorn, mountain goat
Aquarius: Water Bearer
Pisces: Fish, Dolphin, Shark

Individual Totems

Beyond the larger group totems, there are also individual totems. Your power animal may come to you in the form of dreams, visions or meditations. Sometimes if it is a real animal it will appear to you in real life. People often have more than one totem. Sometimes they change depending on the status of your life. They are often protectors, sometimes physical guards and sometimes as emotional guardians. Sometimes your totem may seem to have no powers, such as a mouse. That is, until you study the mouse's uncanny power of adaption. Additionally, the totem can grow to the strength it is needed to. So.beware of GIANT mice! Even they can be scary.

I highly recommend Helium. It is helpful, as it helps kick back a little money to authors.

Unicorns a Metaphysical Study Unicorns: A Metaphysical Study

Unicorns are fascinating and wonderful creatures with a rich and varied history. Magickally, unicorns can provide wonderful guides for all types of people. There are many types of unicorns that can be called upon for aid. The unicorn is one of the oldest beings and the revival of metaphysical interest has sparked its rebirth.

The unicorn has appeared in movies, tapestries, cave drawing, bestiaries, reliefs, mosaics, sculptures, paintings, ancient vases and more! Many people envision the unicorn as a white horse with a single straight horn emerging from its forehead, however, this is only one of many unicor
Unicorn Magick Reference Unicorn is a god. He demands servitude and sacrifice. He stands out of reach, as fixed and brilliant as the stars. Serried ranks of unicorns keep guard like anthracite statues on the outer edges of our universe. Starlight catches on their horns; their molded flanks glisten with power.

Hail, Unicorn!  God of knowledge, a dark ghost on the fringes of man's consciousness, a pewter shadow in the leafless deserts of the mind.

The unicorn is one of the oldest mythological beings. It has traveled through lore as a single hor
Unicorn Grounding Ritual Rituals can be great, but you need to ground yourself before you do it. It makes sure you are open to energy, not using all of your own and not wearing yourself out. Its important to ground yourself because it relaxes and focuses you. You draw on the earthy energies that way rather than you own so you don't get tired, worn out, sick or frustrated. Unicorn energies seem to be best for healing and protection spells, but it really depends on the aspect of unicorn you are calling on. This grounding works best for me while standing because I am already straight. Its good to practice your rituals while walking, laying or sitting as well. However, f Artemis and Unicorns Lately, the goddess who has been demanding my undivided attention has been.....Artemis! I have studied her quite a bit and she has gone through many transformations. For the most part she is a maiden goddess in the visage of the protector or defender. She is Greek, however she has been present in other mythologies under other names. Pure and strong, she did not seek the company of males and was a "virgin wife" or "eternal virgin" depending on the story. Often she is armed with a bow and protects women, virgins, children and animals. Sacred animals are the deer, hound and unicorn along with many others.
